As a graduating student at Drexel University, our Senior Thesis was intended to demonstrate the integration of our academic and practical knowledge.
The goal of our project was to convey an elaborate fictional story of five graduating seniors, and one innovative robot (FroBo) that does everything but make their lives easy. Our idea was to use our technical and creative skills to blur the line between reality and fiction, and have our viewers fall into believing our story, and this robot were true.
The main tools and technologies used to accomplish this project were: XHTML, CSS, PHP, Flash, video and audio production, as well as 3D modeling/animation and post-production compositing to blend the "real-world" with our fictitious robot.
Our first step to pull this off was to build a back-story for our robot; we created a fake company along with a corporate website, which included an online store to purchase a wide range robots and accessories.
Role: Web layout & design, Flash & Actionscript.
The next step to string our audience along, was to develope a blog as a narrative of our experiences with FroBo.
Role: Web design and development.
Lastly, to truly get our everyone to believe that this robot was real, we created videos of our interaction with FroBo. Through humorous demonstrations and mock research trials we reveal that this “cutting edge” and “convenient” robot and its functions are nonsensical and impractical.
Roles: Video production, compositing, and sound sffects.
